At Prospect Music Studio, I teach from a foundation of classical, jazz, and contemporary guitar, drawing on the strengths of each discipline to develop strong fundamentals and a deeper understanding of music. Rather than following a set curriculum, I work with each student to create a plan based on their musical goals and the styles of music they want to play.

 

For beginners, I focus on building a strong foundation from the start, giving them the tools to grow confidently as musicians. For experienced players, lessons can help untangle what has developed over years of playing and find a clear way forward when they've reached a plateau or feel stuck. In both cases, the approach is shaped around the individual student—where they are, what they want to play, and where they want to go—and structured so that steady progress can be made with a short, focused practice each day.

 

The music a student wants to play is always at the center of the process. We draw from different musical traditions and disciplines as needed, and students have the option to explore beyond the instrument into areas such as theory, harmony, and composition. How far we go in these areas depends on each student's interests and curiosity, as well as what can help inform and deepen their main area of study. The goal is not to fit the student into a particular method, but to find the right combination of ideas and skills to help them move forward with greater understanding, freedom, and expression.

 

I’ve spent many years performing and recording with a wide range of critically acclaimed artists and musicians in different musical settings. That experience informs the way I teach and the perspective I bring to the studio. I want students to come away from their lessons with more than a collection of songs or exercises—with a much clearer sense of how music works, how to approach their instrument, and how to make the music they want to play their own.

 

Ultimately, the music comes first.
